Sarah’s MJCC Bat Mitzvah Celebration
Originally scheduled for January 2021, the pandemic meant that Sarah’s MJCC Bat Mitzvah Celebration would have to be postponed. The new date on January 1, 2022 at Mittleman Jewish Community Center worked out though as this event happened just before her next birthday.
Mask-wearing was required, but that was no deterrent to a having a good time playing games and dancing. I led the kids in a scavenger hunt and two rounds of Kahoot! trivia to see how well her friends knew the guest of honor.
The adults then joined in for dancing and the traditional “The Hora” with chair raising of Sarah and her family.
For the last hour, everyone had a great time dancing to fun hit music… everything from “Happy” and “Blinding Lights” to Sarah’s favorite songs from Lovejoy, Owl City, Surf Cruize and more.

Ari’s MJCC Bar Mitzvah Celebration
The last event I performed before the Covid shutdown was Noah’s Bar Mitzvah on March 7, 2020. Almost two years later, it was his brother Ari’s turn for his MJCC Bar Mitzvah Celebration held at Mittleman Jewish Community Center on Saturday, December 18, 2021.
The entire venue was open for guests for this event that began at 6pm, including the gym where the kids played basketball and the foyer where air hockey and cornhole games were set-up.
Around 6:45, everyone gathered in the main ballroom for Havdalah, which was led by family friend Joel, who also played acoustic guitar. We then picked up the energy with “The Hora” and chair raising of Ari and his family, followed by some additional pre-dinner dancing.
A slideshow ran thoughout the night on the big screen, but it was also showcased with music near the end of dinner. I then invited all the kids to the dance floor for some games that included a scavenger hunt, limbo and Blazers vs. Timbers (new name for Coke & Pepsi).
For the last hour, everyone had a great time dancing to fun hit music… everything from “Uptown Funk” and “Levitating” to “Cupid Shuffle” and Ari’s mom’s request for “Party In The USA.”

Portland Vancouver Corporate Holiday Parties Return
Happy Holidays from PRO DJs.
The second weekend of December featured several Portland Vancouver corporate holiday parties.

We had the opportunity to perform at the holiday party for this company in 2019 and afterwards, they booked the next two with PRO DJs. Of course with the pandemic, the 2020 event was canceled, so guests were raring to go on the dance floor.

This company has gone through several name changes over the last 10 years, but PRO DJs remains a constant. It wasn’t as a big a crowd as previous events, but those who stayed for dancing had a great time.
December Wedding McMenamins Grand Lodge
Tori and Mike’s wedding and reception took place at McMenamins Grand Lodge in Forest Grove, Oregon on Saturday, December 4, 2021.
The first Saturday of December brought the expected cold rain, but the tent placed in front of the Children’s Cottage provided plenty of cover for their exchange of vows.

The reception followed immediately inside the Children’s Cottage. However, with 130 guests in attendance, we had to make use of all the space with two dining rooms upstairs and one in the main Priscillas Room where the dancing took place later on. In fact, space was at such a premium, dining tables completely covered the dance floor.
Including the ceremony, I needed to provide music in three different locations on the property. For the dining areas upstairs, I was able to connect my Ipad with a pre-programmed setlist to the house system while I played background music live for guests in Priscillas Room.

Following dinner, all guests returned to the tent where the ceremony happened earlier for the toast and cake cutting. We then returned to Priscillas Room for the formal dances and then everyone joined in with an amazing energy, filling the floor for most of the night. We got off to a great start with “At Last,” “Twist & Shout,” “Stayin’ Alive”, the bride and groom’s request for “Uptown Funk” and more.
