Portland Bar Mitzvah Columbia Edgewater Country Club
Asher was ready to have a good time at his Portland Bar Mitzvah Columbia Edgewater Country Club held on Saturday, June 4, 2022 with most of his friends having arrived before the 6pm start time. This event was originally scheduled for October 2021, but delayed because of Covid.
There were many things planned including gaming tables (blackjack and poker), as well as games with the DJ (me) before dinner. Asher’s favorite sports are basketball and football, perfect for the ice breaker basketball vs. football pass. The kids had a great time with that and the scavenger that followed, as well Blazers vs. Eagles (a variation of the soda drink game) and a limbo that ended right before everyone gathered for Havdalah and several speeches by the family.
After dinner, Asher’s dad Scott sung and played guitar on two original songs he had written, including one called “Runnin’ from Covid-19”. Guests enjoyed singing along and right after he was finished, Scott asked me to play the electric version of the song recorded in a studio. That led nicely into me inviting everyone out for dancing to “The Hora” and chair raising.
From there, adults and kids danced for almost two hours to fun hit songs like I Gotta Feeling” and “Shut Up and Dance”, along with family favorites “September” by Earth, Wind and Fire, “Super Freak” by Rick James and more.
Mazel Tov Asher and thank you mom Joni for choosing PRO DJs.
Talia’s Urban Studio Portland Bat Mitzvah
Along with her friends, Talia was really excited for her Urban Studio Portland Bat Mitzvah celebration held on Saturday, May 28, 2022.
As guests gathered in the bar area above the main room or sat at their tables, I played about 45 minutes of background music before entertaining the kids with games, including “Name That Tune”, a scavenger hunt and one of the best limbo competitions. I was told ahead of time that Talia was really good at the limbo, but the finalists also included her mom and one other adult.
Dinner followed in the main room and then a speech from the guest of honor’s parents. Next, I opened the dance floor with the vocal version of “Hava Nagila” which led to the chair raising of Talia and her parents.
The theme was “Hawaiian” and cool accent lighting projected palm trees in each corner of the main room. At some point, the large garage door was opened to reveal a shaved ice truck which understandably drew many away from the dance floor, but only temporarily. Adults and kids danced the night away to the big hits, such as “Happy”, “Hey Ya” and “Cupid Shuffle,” plus the family’s requests for classics “Dancing Queen” and “Celebration”.
Mazel Tov Talia and thank you mom and dad, Jill and Mike for choosing PRO DJs.

Bat Mitzvah Party Laurelhurst Club Portland
DJ Rich Ellis had the opportunity to perform at Anya’s Bat Mitzvah Party at the Laurelhurst Club in Portland, Oregon on Saturday, May 14, 2022.
The ceremony was also held in the same venue from 4:30pm to just after 6:00pm. Since I was setting up in the same area where most of the guests were seated for the ceremony, I waited outside with the caterer so we could quickly come inside and setup as the room was being turned for the reception.
I had background music playing by 6:40pm. After about 30 minutes of that, many guests had already started dancing.
We then took a 20 minute break for toasts before restarting the dance floor with “The Hora” that got everyone else out of their chairs to begin a great night of dancing.
The floor was busy for nearly every song from start to finish and the 60+ guests in attendance brought the energy for big hit songs “Happy”, “Uptown Funk” and “Party In The USA”, plus the family’s requests for “Dancing Queen”, “Burning Down The House” and “Hey Ya”.
Mazel Tov Anya and thank you mom Shelley for choosing PRO DJs.
Lacamas Lake Lodge Camas Washington Wedding
Fiona and Spenser’s Lacamas Lake Lodge Camas Washington wedding took place on Monday, May 9, 2022.
The wedding began just after 5pm with both the ceremony and reception held inside. Afterwards, the rain cleared allowing for some photos to be taken on the beautiful lakefront.
Lacamas Lake Lodge Camas Washington Wedding Ceremony Highlights:
- Bridal Party Entrance: Brooklyn Duo – Canon in D (Pachelbel’s Canon)
- Bride Entrance: Daniel Jang – All of Me
- Bride/Groom Exit: Celine Dion – My Heart Will Go On
Background music for the reception was a variety of pop and country favorites.
The bride and groom are both in the Navy and some of their music selections, including their first dance featured that theme.
Lacamas Lake Lodge Camas Washington Wedding Reception Highlights:
- Grand Entrance: Two Steps from Hell – Victory
- Cake Cutting: James Taylor – How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)
- First Dance: Henry Hall – Somewhere At Sea
- Bride and Father Dance: Lee Brice – I Don’t Dance
- Boquet Toss: Stan Rogers – Rollin’ Down To Old Maui
- Last Dance: Semisonic – Closing Time
There was some dancing, but most of the 75 guests traveled from far away and the reunion for many kept them engaged in conversation. Requests from bride and groom and their parents included songs from Van Morrison, UB40 and Bon Jovi, along with Country artists Brad Paisely, Carrie Underwood and Luke Combs.
Congratulations Fiona and Spenser! Thank you to the bride’s parents Julie and Jon for choosing PRO DJs.
