Good Time At Portland Bat Mitzvah Dance Party
Mara and 50+ of her friends gathered to celebrate her Portland Bat Mitzvah on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Sunstone Montessori School in Southwest Portland.
With only a few adult chaperones in the building, the kids knew this was just for them and they had a great time dancing to the hottest current music and playing a few games, including a rousing version of Coke and Pepsi.
Mara also requested a ‘Snowball’ dance and the kids did the limbo. With those few adults in the room, we also managed a chair raising to ‘The Hora’.
Music for the dance floor featured all the latest hits, including Mara’s favorites from Ke$ha, Justin Bieber, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Taylor Swift. Her request list also noted some fun classics I hadn’t spun in awhile, including ‘American Idiot’ from Green Day.
Mazel Tov Mara and thank you mom Cathy for the opportunity. -Rich

Salem Wedding DJ Performs At Grand Ballroom
Hilary and Brian were married and celebrated their reception at the Grand Ballroom in downtown Salem, Oregon on Sunday, May 18, 2013.
Salem Wedding DJ Ceremony Highlights:
- Parents/Family Entrance: Vivaldi’s Four Seasons – Winter, Movement #2
- Bridal Party Entrance: Bach – Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring
- Bride Entrance: Jason Mraz – I Won’t Give Up (Instrumental Piano Version)
- Bride/Groom Exit: Coldplay – Strawberry Swing
The ceremony took place in the main ballroom, which also served as the dance floor later on. Cocktails were served and guests dined in a large adjacent to the ballroom. I had to turn up the music in the ballroom so it could be heard at background level in the dining area, but once the dancing started, it provided a nice refuge for some guests when they took a break.
Salem Wedding DJ Reception Highlights:
- Grand Entrance: Black Eyed Peas – I Gotta Feeling
- Cake Cutting: Hall and Oates – You Make My Dreams
- First Dance: Snow Patrol – Chasing Cars
- Bride and Father Dance: Sting – Fields of Gold
- Groom and Mother Dance: Beatles – In My Life
- Last Dance: Michael Bublé – The Way You Look Tonight
Guests danced to a little bit of everything from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s and the newlyweds requested songs from Earth, Wind & Fire, Michael Jackson, Queen, Will Smith and more. Sunday afternoon really got going though when I spun the big hits from the last few years… ‘Party Rock Anthem’, ‘Dynamite’ and ‘Gangham Style’, plus the hot track of the moment from Macklemore and Ryan Lewis ‘Can’t Hold Us Down.’
Hilary and Brian chose to finish their reception with Neil Diamond’s ‘Sweet Caroline’ and most of their guests joined them in a circle for a group dance.
Big thanks to the bride’s brother Philip for referring PRO DJs (we performed at his wedding in July 2010) and best wishes to Hilary and Brian.
Portland DJ Rocks Canby High School Prom
Portland DJ PRO DJs had the opportunity to perform at the Canby High School Prom held at Montgomery Park in Northwest Portland, Oregon on Saturday, May 18, 2013.
With an 8pm start, the open skylight ceiling at Montgomery Park flooded the dancefloor with daylight for a little over an hour, but the students didn’t let that deter them and began to gather on the dancefloor just a few songs after their special night began.
The theme was ‘Today’s Dream’s, Tomorrow’s Memories’ and they will remember this one for days to come. The dancefloor was movin’ and shakin’ the entire evening as Canby High students enjoyed dancing to the latest hits: ‘Feel This Moment’, ‘Thrift Shop’, ‘Heart Attack’, and the smash of the night, ‘Can’t Hold Us Down.’
The court was introduced and the Queen announced around 10:15pm. The court then danced to ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow/What A Wonderful World’ by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole.
And more fun dance music from this Portland DJ kept up the energy… ‘Scream & Shout’, ‘My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark’, ‘I Love It’, ‘Gangham Style’ and more.
The Heat Is On At Portland Bar Mitzvah
Jared’s Portland Bar Mitzvah was held at Hayden’s Lakeside Grill in Tualatin, Oregon on May 4, 2013. Fewer than 100 guests gathered in the Large Lakefront Room, which is actually a small room, but the perfect spot to celebrate the Jared’s big day.
For this time of year, it was a hot one as the Portland area hit 83 degrees and the huge man-made lake outside on a warm Spring night proved too irresistable for a group of young boys and girls. After dinner, the kids spent quite a bit of time running around the lake while I played background music for the adults as they enjoyed their dinner.
Eventually, Jared and his friends returned looking for some more fun and we got right to it with some games that included a riotous, but under control musical chairs scavenger hunt and a limbo that featured some of the best limboers I had ever seen… some incredibly flexible people in this group.
The Rabbi arrived a little later and the chair raising followed. Jared was super excited to be carried around in the chair while holding an Olympic torch he owns. There was no flame though… with the low ceiling, that would have not been a good idea 🙂
A hot mix of fun dance tracks loaded the dance floor and made this intimate gathering feel a whole lot bigger. Guests were lovin’ the big hits: ‘Party Rock Anthem’, ‘What Makes You Beautiful’, ‘Cupid Shuffle’ and ‘Thrift Shop.’ I also played a few blasts from the past for the adults like ‘Billie Jean’ and ‘Play That Funky Music’, but the kids loved them as well.
Mazel Tov Jared and thank you Kuntheary and Michael for the opportunity. It was a fun and memorable evening. -Rich
