Auction Success Leads To Rockin’ Afterparty

The Leftbank Annex near the Broadway Bridge in Portland, Oregon holds up to 1,500 people on the main level and it was packed with people ready to bid on items to support Oregon Episcopal School on Saturday, March 10, 2012. Meanwhile, preparations were under way in the basement for auction staff and those who bid on a chance to attend the afterparty to let loose with a glass of wine and rockin’ dance tunes.

That’s where I came in and this group came ready to play. The dance floor was in tune from the opening number and was packed from the window to the wall most of the night. The Auction Theme was ‘Rock Music’ and some came dressed as their favorite rock star or wearing a concert t-shirt. After an AC/DC sighting, I rolled ‘You Shook Me All Night Long’ as part of a dose of heavy 80’s, but some current music went over just as well. Crowd favorites also included ‘Come On Eileen’ from Dexy’s Midnight Runners and Madonna’s ‘Vogue’.

Big thanks to Julie and Rebecca for the opportunity… it was a great time. -Rich

“I was present for the actual function but a committee member did all coordination with Rich. All correspondence was prompt and we booked several months out which was nice to have off the list!”  -Rebecca Roberts (OES Auction Chair)

Return Engagement For Vancouver WA Mobile DJ

They had a great time and word got out after last year’s event… so much so, that attendance increased 50 percent at this year’s annual Clark County Newcomers Club Holiday Party held at Club Green Meadows in Vancouver, Washington. It was nice to hear they enjoyed themselves last December and chose to have me back.

Members of this club see each other often, so they are comfortable together and that made for a hoppin’ dance floor. Most guests are age 60 and older and they really loved music from the 50’s and 60’s, including Elvis, The Beatles and Motown hits.

Thanks to the committee for again choosing PRO DJs. Happy Holidays. -Rich

Hoppin’ Dance Floor At Convention Closing Party

The Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing is a series of conferences taking place in various cities around the country. I was honored to be chosen as DJ/Emcee for Sponsor Night, a networking event to celebrate the conclusion of this event.

With over 2,600 attendees (all women), this party got going in a hurry. A marching band led everyone to the ballroom and when the doors opened, I began playing ‘I Gotta Feeling’ from the Black Eyed Peas.

The playlist was a mix of current popular music with a few fun classics. The giant dance floor was no match for this group as the overflow extended out onto the carpet on all sides. At one point, it appeared nearly every attendee was dancing.

The energy was amazing from this group and I appreciated the opportunity to lead the fun.

Auction/Kidfest Raises $$$ For Local School

The week leading up to Halloween is an eventful one for PRO DJs and certainly a change of pace after the run of weddings that started last May. At this time of year, Halloween-themed parties at schools and private functions rule the calendar.

Following a middle school dance and karaoke party yesterday, I had a chance to perform at one of my favorite type of events, a family fun night at Prune Hill Elementary School in Camas, Washington on Friday, October 28, 2011.

This was an auction to raise money for the school and a chance for the kids to dress up in their Halloween costumes. Of course, upon arrival the students were real excited and ready to have a good time. I spun lots of current hit music and we had fun playing ‘Musical Bumps,’ and running a ‘Penguin (school mascot) Says Conga Line.’

The hit of the night though and an annual tradition was the ‘Mummy Wrap’ contest. The local paper mill donated rolls of toilet paper and with ‘Monster Mash’ playing in the background, the kids raced to see who could wrap their partner the fastest with the entire roll.

Afterwards, it looked like the wind blew in tons of TP as the floor was completely covered in the stuff. This was a good time to transition to the limbo. But not just one limbo, we had four limbos running simueltaneously and the students leaned back through one after another.

After the costume contest winners were announced and prizes awarded, the kids wanted to hear all of their favorite current songs and they danced to every single one, including ‘Party Rock Anthem’ ‘Calling All You Monsters’ and the most requested tune of the night ‘Dynamite’. I had to laugh as the students kept requesting the same five songs, so I spun them more than once. There seemed to be a never-ending conga line… everytime, I looked up another one had formed… good fun.

Thank you PHE for choosing PRO DJs.

Mobile DJ Ascends Mountain For Bachelor Bash

My second event in less than a year halfway up an Oregon mountain in the Cascades took place on Saturday, September 10, 2011. The USTA Team Cup Challenge 20th Anniversary Dinner/Dance was originally scheduled for the mall in Sunriver, but moved at the last minute because of a scheduling conflict to Pine Marten Lodge on Mt. Bachelor. With the temperature in Bend at 92 degrees, it was refreshing being up that high and the view was spectacular.

This past New Year’s Eve, I performed in Silcox Hut located above Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood. Guests had a great time then, but the elevation left everyone more winded than normal from dancing. I was concerned this may happen with this event as well, but that wasn’t the case. In fact, the dance floor exploded almost immediately and never really let up. It was a wild night to say the least as I spun a variety of songs that included today’s hit music (i.e., Usher, Pink) and the classics (i.e, Michael Jackson, Def Leppard).

My equipment was brought up to the lodge on the ski chairlift. After the party, it was a dark ride back down the mountain, but with a full moon lighting up the Three Sisters mountains nearby and the quiet night air, the trip was quite an amazing experience.

Thank you Don with Team Cup Challenge and Blair with USTA in Beaverton for the opportunity.
