Bar Mitzvah
Daniel’s Bar Mitzvah
The night could not have been anymore perfect for Daniel’s Bar Mitzvah held June 25th in the Memorial Union Building at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon.
Daniel was a little reserved before the party while helping his mother decorate, but it didn’t take long for him to loosen up as guests arrived for his big day. Everyone looked happy, hungry and ready to have a good time, so when the dancing started, it was like watching a train leave the station. Kids, parents, grandparents… everybody was on it and ready to party.
As usual, the girls were dancing right away and eventually they managed to get the guys to join them. ‘The Hora’ was huge as the family had three large circles going and Daniel had a smile that was priceless. The night ended with me and Daniel hugging and him telling me he had a great time. After the party, he helped his mom clean-up and you could tell everybody had a good time… they had a lot to clean-up 🙂

“Dear Steve, Thanks so much for a great party! Because of your talent, all the kids & adults alike were out of their seats dancing, and that’s no small feat! When our friends and family were leaving the party, the common refrain was “this is the most fun we’ve had in a long time!” Steve, we have you to thank for that! All the best,” -Nadine & Neil Davison

Toby’s Bar Mitzvah
The Mittleman Jewish Community Center main ballroom was decorated in a retro theme complete with a 60’s psychedelic lounge for the kids, who arrived to find all kinds of fun toys to keep their interest immediately. Most were boys and they enjoyed firing the pull-string helicopters across the room and beating each other with the glow light jellyfish. I was thinking ‘oh, boy’ and I had to put on my dad voice with a few of them 🙂
In preparing for this event, the plan was for me to play background music for the first hour until the video presentation. That would be followed by games and dancing for the kids. Well, having been a mobile DJ for 25 years, adjusting on the fly comes with the territory and it was decided to move things up a bit, so I distracted the kids with their favorite current hit music and they rocked the dance floor until the video.
Next, I led the kids through a fun set of games that included, ‘Name That Tune’ and a crazy ‘Scavenger Hunt’ that we played twice with about 25 boys and girls participating in each round. The parents ended up being the provider of many of the items needed, but the kids had a great time. I then played some more current hits, plus many of Toby’s favorite songs from Soulja Boy, Black Eyed Peas, Katy Perry and more.
One thing that was different about this event is all the kids left the room for the final hour to go swimming. A great idea as many got carried away with the chocolate fountain and were covered in the stuff… they were even creating tattoos on each other’s arms with chocolate. A trip to the pool for the kids also allowed the adults to have the dance floor to themselves and I spun for them many classic dance hits that included Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra and plenty of Motown.

Sam’s Bar Mitzvah
‘All I Do Is Win’ from DJ Khaled is one of Sam’s favorite songs and it was his theme for the night as friends and family celebrated his Bar Mitzvah on May 7th at the University Club in Portland.
The guests arrived to a variety of background music from Bruno Mars, Coldplay, Marvin Gaye and others. While the adults engaged in conversation, the kids ate dinner and had fun with a mobile tatoo parlor and Ben & Jerry’s ice cream bar.
The sugar high kicked in pretty fast and with all the kids gathered, we launched into a fun set of games that included, ‘Name That Tune’, ‘Jukebox Eliminator’, and the Limbo. I spun a lot of current hit music during this time, plus a swing dance and break dance to another Sam favorite – ‘Rapper’s Delight’ from the Sugarhill Gang.
After Havdalah and a video, all the guests returned to the dance floor for ‘The Hora’ and traditional Chair Raising. They were energized and ready to dance to a mix of fun songs from the Black Eyed Peas, Usher, Cee-Lo Green’s big hit ‘Forget You’, the Cha Cha Slide and more. Everyone seemed to have a good time and I got the thumbs up from Sam as we finished the night with a slow dance.

Sol’s Bar Mitzvah
What can u say about Sol? Well, he loves sports. He loves to be happy and enjoys competition. And that’s exactly what we had at his Bar Mitzvah party on April 30th at Tualatin Country Club.
There was lots of dancing with family and friends, pictures to capture the moment with ‘Paparazzi’ and competitive with the ‘Wii Crew’ and video games. This combination was explosive and the dance floor electrifying, as friends and family enjoyed music, games and prizes. The food at the club was fantastic and the ‘Sugar Bar’ for the children was out of this world.

A Tale Of Two Mitzvahs
PRO DJs performed at David’s Bar Mitzvah and Shayna’s Bat Mitzvah Saturday night.
Steve was the DJ at David’s party, held at Club Sport in Tigard. After some tough competition from a close game in the NCAA Basketball tournament airing on the big screen television right outside where the dancing was to take place, Steve finally drew a crowd and proceeded to rock the conference room with fun games and lots of current hit music for the kids. For the final hour of this event, the entire club was opened to the kids and they scattered almost immediately to enjoy rock climbing, basketball and other activities. This allowed the adults to own the dance floor and Steve accommodated them with a variety of great dance music from all eras.
Rich was the DJ at Shayna’s Bat Mitzvah held at Aquariva Italian Kitchen in Portland. This event was originally planned to involve games and dancing similar to David’s Bar Mitzvah, but about 30 days before the event, the family changed their mind and decided they would prefer a low-key affair. I played a variety of background music for the adult guests, who appeared to enjoy the evening visiting with each other while the kids gathered in a small side room they had all to themselves. This room featured an Xbox game system and Wii with Rock Band on a big screen, plus lots of candy 🙂 While this event was more laid back than most similar parties, many guests couldn’t resist the urge to get their groove on and we had a nice run on a makeshift dancefloor to finish the evening with a fun mix of music that included the ‘Cha Cha Slide’, Cee Lo Green’s ‘Forget You’ and Shayna’s favorite, Shania Twain ‘Man! I Feel Like A Woman’.
