Vancouver WA Heathman Lodge Wedding

Amanda and Nick’s Heathman Lodge wedding took place on Saturday, October 19, 2019 in Vancouver, Washington. Just before, I was admiring the fall foliage this time of year and thinking what a great backdrop for an outdoor wedding, but the weather has been a little unsettled so good thing the ceremony and reception were both held inside the Lewis & Clark Ballroom.

Heathman Lodge Wedding Ceremony Highlights:

  • Bridal Party & Bride Entrance: Forrest Gump Theme (Alan Silvestri)
  • Bride/Groom Exit: Heavy D & The Boyz – Now That We Found Love

The reception followed immediately in the same room and guests enjoyed conversation with background music that featured a variety of styles, including country hits as requested by the bride.

Heathman Lodge Wedding Reception Highlights:

  • Grand Entrance: Sugarland – Stuck Like Glue
  • Cake Cutting: James Taylor – How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)
  • First Dance: Lee Brice – I Don’t Dance
  • Groom and Mother Dance: Garth Brooks – It’s Your Song
  • Last Dance: Rascal Flatts – Back To Life

The dance floor was a tiny square in the middle of the room that filled for the opening slow dance and spilled over for much of the afternoon for the upbeat songs that followed.

The party really lit up for fun participation dance songs, such as the “Cupid Shuffle,” “Cha Cha Slide,” and the recent country/hip-hop smash “The Git Up” by Blanco Brown. The bride missed that one the first time and requested I play it again only a few songs later. It went over just a strong the second time 🙂

Near the end, Amanda and one her guests rocked a swing dance to Luke Bryan’s “Country Girl (Shake It For Me)” before the entire room joined the newlyweds for the last two songs.

Thank you Columbia High School in White Salmon, Washington for choosing PRO DJs for your Homecoming dance on Saturday, October 19, 2019.

We brought some new lights and you brought the energy… The Bruins students packed the dance floor all night, especially during the second to last song, Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing.”

“Students really enjoyed the DJ/music experience. It was a bigger crowd than we’d expected, but they kept dancing the whole time, and most stayed till the very end. Thanks for the great night!”

Nate’s Portland Bar Mitzvah At The Evergreen

Nate’s Bar Mitzvah celebration was held at The Evergreen in Southeast Portland, Oregon on Saturday, October 12, 2019. Less than two years ago, I had the opportunity to also DJ his brother Jack’s Bar Mitzvah party.

Guests began arriving around 6:30 and only 20 minutes later, we launched into some games for the kids. The family brought a giant glow in the dark jump rope and with black lights postioned over the dance floor, this provided a cool effect and the energy was immediate. There were also other activites upstairs, including photo booth and face painting.

After dinner, it was just one big party, as the dancing kicked off with the traditional “The Hora” and chair raising. Since the kids had all the great space upstairs, the adults owned the dance floor for the first 30 minutes, getting down to classic and recent hits, “September,” “Uptown Funk” and more.

The kids then joined in for “Old Town Road,” several tracks from Drake, current smash “Bad Guy” by Billie Eilish and more.

October Wedding McMenamins Kennedy School

Frances and Arthur’s wedding and reception took place at McMenamins’s Kennedy School in Portland, Oregon on Saturday, October 5, 2019.

The first weekend of October brought sunshine for their exchange of vows in the courtyard. Normally I start the ceremony prelude music 30 minutes before the wedding. However, this couple chose to have a full cocktail hour before the wedding and requested all music from “The Postal Service” during this time.

Portland Wedding DJ Ceremony Highlights:

  • Wedding Party Entrance: Death Cab for Cutie – I Will Follow You Into The Dark
  • Bride Entrance: Bright Eyes – First Day of My Life
  • Bride/Groom Exit: Rawnald Gregory Erickson The Second – Strfkr

The reception followed immediately in the Gymnasium. It was a nice evening and a few guests stayed in the courtyard, but most went inside. I had background music playing in both locations until dinner.

It was a small group, but they filled the dance floor for much of the night. Inn at Avonlea Sandy Oregon Wedding

Cassidy and James held their Inn at Avonlea Sandy Oregon Wedding on Saturday, September, 28, 2019. It was raining near Mt. Hood so everything was moved inside for the ceremony, originally planned to be outside with the reception after inside the barn.

Of course, the sun came out after the ceremony, but it was a cozy intimate setting to exchange their vows. While I provided microphones and played the prelude, all music was performed by live musicians.

Good thing it was dry as all guests were asked to move outside temporarily while the room was reset for the reception. When everyone returned, I played a mix of popular crooner music from the 40’s and 50’s as requested by the bride. Artists included Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Tony Bennett and more.

Inn at Avonlea Sandy Oregon Wedding Reception Highlights:

  • Grand Entrance: Walk The Moon – Shut Up & Dance
  • Cake Cutting: Randy Travis – Forever and Ever Amen
  • First Dance: Jim Croce – I’ll Have to Say I Love You
  • Bride and Father Dance: Third Day – Love Song
  • Groom and Mother Dance: Backstreet Boys – The Perfect Fan
  • Bouquet Toss: Weather Girls – It’s Raining Men
  • Last Dance: Semisonic – Closing Time

Between and the cake cutting and first dance, Cassidy and James played the shoe game. The best responses are to questions where couples disagree or they are not sure how to answer. There was a lot of double shoe raising to questions like “Who has the wackiest family” and “Who made the first move?”

It was still early when the dancing began, so there was some ebb and flow, especially with the dance floor also the main thoroughfare from one end of the barn to the other.

A few songs in though, the dance floor began to define a little more and filled for the fun fast tunes, that included a swing dance.
