Hudson’s Bay High School Prom
“Black and Yellow!”…those are Hudson’s Bay High School colors (at least that’s what I was told) so we had to play that song by Wiz Khalifa during the 2011 Prom at the Portland Art Museum. It was the perfect venue for a formal occasion. After loading in and setting up, it was showtime. I could see the students trickling in. We got the mood started with some medium-tempo music. New, popular hits from artists like Bruno Mars, Lupe Fiasco and Pink. As more of the very well-dressed young men and women started to enter the sunken ballroom, the tempo started to get faster. It was starting to become a full blown party and we were about to blow the roof off.
The great thing about DJing is the energy that builds. It comes from the music. It comes from the crowd. I could feel the energy building and I reflect that with the music. It becomes a 3 hour journey of popular music of today and some from the past to remember. Hudson’s Bay had a lot great energy and danced the entire prom. We mostly played current music from today’s hot artist like Nicki Minaj, Black Eyed Peas, One Republic, Cee-Lo Green and Ms. Katy Perry. We threw in a few old songs and some slow ones during the night too. The entire night was a blast. I played as many requests as I could, but if I couldn’t play it, the song may have been a little too hot for a school dance. They understand ?. Thanks Hudson’s Bay for having us be a part of a great evening to remember. Congratulations to the graduating Seniors!!
