Ike’s New Year’s Eve Portland Bar Mitzvah Bash
Portland Bar Mitzvah DJ Rich Ellis performed at Ike’s Bar Mitzvah party on Saturday, December 31, 2016, at the Providence Park KeyBank Club in Portland, Oregon. If you ever wanted to see the stadium where the Portland Timbers plays their home games with the lights off… well, here you go 🙂
About 125 guests came together to celebrate Ike’s big night and the ushering in of a new year. As they arrived, I played a variety of upbeat background music before entertaining the kids with a variety of games, including ‘name that tune’, a scavenger hunt and Coke & Pepsi.
Since this event was being held at the Timbers stadium, I thought soccer may be Ike’s favorite sport. He told me it’s actually his second favorite… baseball is what he likes best, so with two teams competiting, we also played a great game of pass the ball… baseball vs. soccer.
With many guests visiting from back East and quite a few little ones that probably wouldn’t make it to the Portland new year, Ike’s mom wanted an East Coast countdown at 9pm (Pacific Time). After an upbeat ‘Auld Lang Syne’, the energy level jumped dramatically with everyone coming out for ‘The Hora’ and chair raising of Ike and his family.
A variety of fun hit music followed, everything from ‘Happy’ and ‘Uptown Funk’ to ‘Billie Jean’ and ‘Single Ladies’, it was a good time on the dance floor.
With the threat of snow that night and many 6am flights back to the east coast scheduled for the next day, the Portland new year turned out to be a little ambitious and Ike’s family decided to have that countdown take place at 11pm instead 🙂
Mazel Tov Ike and thank you parents Linda and Michael for choosing PRO DJs. Happy New Year!
Company Party Confidence In PRO DJs 11 Years
It was another big time holiday party for a Vancouver Garden Supply company on Saturday, December 10, 2016 and for the eleventh straight year, they chose PRO DJs for their annual event that included gambling, tons of prizes and of course, dancing.
The Grand Ballroom at the Jantzen Beach Red Lion Hotel in Portland, Oregon features a large dining area with dance floor, plus a sizable foyer, that provided the perfect spot to place gaming tables that were open from the very beginning as guests arrived for the party around 6pm.
For cocktails and dinner, I played a mix of holiday favorites as requested by the client and the gaming tables remained open until 8:00pm. The employees of this company really look forward to what comes next each year… a large number of great prizes are given away, including tools, electronics, gift cards, cash, paid time off and big screen televisions.
It normally takes almost two hours to draw all the winners, but most people don’t seem to mind and they are usually excited to start dancing when it’s over. I enjoy spinning for this group and they have a lot of fun on the dance floor. I played everything from Michael Jackson and AC/DC to Bruno Mars and The Weeknd.
Thanks again Kristy for continuing to use PRO DJs at your annual event. Happy Holidays. -Rich

Soccer Stars At Rose City Futsal Bat Mitzvah
Ani loves soccer and Rose City Futsal in Northeast Portland, Oregon was the perfect place to hold her Bat Mitzvah party on Saturday, November 26, 2016.
The family reserved the entire venue. This meant 2 full turf futsal fields to play soccer and other fun activities.
There is also a third hardwood floor and this is where I setup my sound system for music, games and dancing. The adults gathered upstairs in Clive’s Public House located on the mezzanine level.
The play fields provided stiff competition to dancing, but the music carried nicely throughout the venue and added another level of energy to the fun both kids and adults had playing soccer and other sports.
The dance floor became a little more popular when everyone gathered for the traditional chair raising and dancing to ‘The Hora.’
The music mix featured mostly current hit songs, such as ‘Cheap Thrills’ and ‘Side to Side’ plus all of Ani’s favorites, including Justin Timberlake’s ‘Can’t Stop The Feeling,’ ‘Super Bass’ from Nicki Minaj and Walk the Moon’s ‘Shut Up and Dance.’
Mazel Tov Ani and thank you Lisa and Jason for choosing PRO DJs.
November Rain At Empress Estate Wedding
Katie and Chase were married at the historical Empress Estate in Woodland, Washington on Sunday, November 20, 2016. It was a wet late November day and with the ceremony and most of the reception held in a tent adjacent to the main entrance of the main building, we were reminded throughout as the rain fell (hard at times) off and on outside.
Ceremony Highlights:
- Bridal Party Entrance: Amy Hite – Prelude from Cello Suite No. 1, BWV 1007
- Bride Entrance: Vitamin String Quartet – Yellow
- Bride/Groom Exit: Chad Brock – Yes!
Following the wedding, all guests were directed inside for cocktails and appetizers as the tent area was turned for the reception, including dinner. The newlyweds requested all Country music for their big day. During dinner I played a mix of background music that featured artists such as Kenny Chesney, Lady Antebellum, Tim McGraw and more.
Reception Highlights:
- Grand Entrance: Etta James – At Last
- Cake Cutting: Billy Currington – Must Be Doin’ Somethin’ Right
- Boquet Toss: Little Big Town – Little White Church
- Garter Toss: Toby Keith – A Little Less Talk And A Lot More Action
The traditional reception events took place inside the main entrance of the estate. The bride and groom wanted their guests standing along the stairwell on each side of the cake table below… this made for a great photo. With no amplification inside, I projected my voice the best I could to coordinate the bouquet and garter toss and it seemed to go perfectly.
At the end of the evening, it was a sparkler sendoff as Katie and Chase made their exit out the front doors of the Empress Estate to their waiting guests. Congratulations to you both and thank you for choosing PRO DJs.

Corporate Karaoke Party At Grand Central Bowl
PRO DJs had the opportunity to perform at the La Crosse Footwear corporate karaoke party held at Grand Central Bowling Lounge in Portland, Oregon on Friday, November 4, 2016.
With bowling, games, photo booth and raffle, their was a lot of competition for attention, but following dinner, many guests found me setup in a side room adjacent to the bar and couldn’t wait to belt out their favorites.
After Chris got us started with Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and Chelsea performed Maroon 5’s ‘Sunday Morning’, we were off to strong start. Before the big raffle, Dave sang Ray Charles ‘Georgia On My Mind’ and John Mellencamp’s ‘Hurt So Good’. Ryan did Prince ‘I Would Die 4 U’ and Eric really fired up the group with Bon Jovi’s ‘Livin’ On A Prayer’.
Following the raffle, we had about 30 minutes of time left, and I was able to pack in performances from Joe doing Tom Petty’s ‘American Girl’, Lauren singing the Backstreet Boys ‘Everybody (Backstreets’s Back), Deanna and Molly performing ‘Lady Marmalade’ as done by Christina Aguilera w/Lil’ Kim, Mya & Pink, and Chris wrapped up a wild night with Salt N’ Pepa’s ‘Push it.’
