Rich Ellis
Vancouver WA Wedding DJ At Royal Oaks
The first day of Summer was a dandy for Mindy and Jesse’s wedding reception on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Royal Oaks Country Club in Vancouver, Washington.
It was a beautiful day and as expected, guests could not resist spending the cocktail hour outside on the back patio.
Vancouver WA Wedding DJ Reception Highlights:
- Cake Cutting: James Taylor – Your Smiling Face
- First Dance: John Legend – All of Me
Mindy had told me in our final planning meeting earlier in the week that Jesse really didn’t want to do a first dance, but they chose a great song and I talked them into it by offering a shorter version of John Legend’s ‘All of Me.’
They agreed and as the dance floor picked up momentum afterwards, Jesse must have caught the bug because he was out there for more than a few songs, dancing with his new bride.
Everyone had a great time getting down to everything from ‘Love Shack’ and the current big hit ‘Happy’ to Mindy’s request for ‘Pump Up The Jam’ and of course, ‘Jessie’s Girl’ from Rick Springfield 🙂

Perfect Picturesque Bridal Veil Lakes Wedding
It feels like Summer has arrived early this year.
You can usually count on rain the first weekend of June in the Portland area, but for Courtney and Matt’s Bridal Veil Lakes Wedding on Saturday, June 7, 2014, the weather was a perfect sunny and 79 degrees.
This is a beautiful place in the Columbia River Gorge just past Corbett, Oregon. Following the ceremony on the other side of the lake, guests walked the nature trail to the main reception area. I was asked to begin my set with dinner music around 5:30pm.
Bridal Veil Lakes Wedding Reception Highlights:
- First Dance: Nat King Cole – Unforgettable
- Bride and Father Dance: Heartland – I Loved Her First
- Groom and Mother Dance: Frank Sinatra – The Way You Look Tonight
- Last Dance: Journey – Don’t Stop Believin’
The dance floor opened to everyone around 7pm, so there was a lot of daylight left, but this group got right into it, dancing to everything from ‘Brown Eyed Girl’ to ‘Billie Jean’ and then taking it to another level with ‘Happy’ and other current top hits.
At some point, the groomsmen couldn’t resist taking the boats out before sunset. The guests waved to them, but were having too much fun themselves, dancing to ‘Respect’, ‘September’, ‘Hey Ya’ and other classics.
After dark, the party kept rolling non-stop… over 3 hours of dancing fun.
Congratulations Courtney & Matt and thanks for choosing PRO DJs.

Last Day of May Grand Lodge Wedding
It was a beautiful and warm Spring day that felt more like mid-Summer for Francine and David’s wedding and reception held at McMenamins Grand Lodge in Forest Grove, Oregon on Saturday, May 31, 2014.
The reception took place inside the Children’s Cottage following the ceremony held right outside under the big tree between the cottage and Grand Lodge.
Despite the great weather outside, most guests hung out in the main room where I was setup. The room has an intimate feel and the background music that featured a variety of artists, such as Jack Johnson, The Beales, Jimmy Buffet and more, put everyone at ease. Francine also wanted to make sure I played ‘Kind & Generous’ by Natalie Merchant as a “thank you, thank you” to her friends and family for attending.
Grand Lodge Wedding Reception Highlights:
- First Dance: Keith Urban – Without You
Francine and David had expected around 70 guests, but a family emergency dropped that number to around 40. Still, those in attendance had a great time dancing with the bride to hit songs from a variety of genres.
Classic Portland Wedding Reception
Connie and Kal’s Classic Portland Wedding Reception featured everything from fun, familiar oldies to Greek and Hungarian favorites.
The reception was held on Sunday, May 25, 2014 at Legends Condominiums in Southwest Portland, a few blocks from Providence Park.
After a cocktail hour with a live pianist in an adjacent room, guests moved to the dining room across the hall. I was set-up in the Atrium and moved a speaker close to the entrance to provide a mix of background music that included soft big band (1940’s style, such as Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller and Frank Sinatra).
Classic Portland Wedding Reception Highlights:
- First Dance: Righteous Brothers – Unchained Melody
- Groom and Daughters Dance: Louis Armstrong – What A Wonderful World
- Bride and Cousins Dance: Champs – Tequila
- Last Dance: Donna Summer – Last Dance
There were only 45 guests in attendance, but they brought the energy… dancing to mostly golden oldies and classic hits from the 50’s and 60’s, including The Glenn Miller Orchestra, The Beatles and more. I also played many Greek and Hungarian songs that were well received by guests visiting from all over the world.

“Rich Ellis was wonderful to work with! Upbeat, professional and polished. He provided us with all the pre-preparation materials that made our event run smoothly. He was prompt and accessible to us, the bride and groom, prior to the wedding and throughout our evening. He also exhibited warmth, a welcoming approach to our guests, and did so with style and flair. In addition, we chose to adjust some music mid-reception and Rich did this seamlessly. We highly recommend Rich Ellis at ProDJs.” -Connie Kirk and Kal Toth

Bat Mitzvah DJ Rocks Daytime Celebration
Mazel Tov Ava! Portland Bat Mitzvah DJ Rich Ellis performed at her celebration on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Holocene in Southeast Portland.
The reception began at 12:30pm and while the daylight outside gave it away, if you didn’t know what time it was, it might have felt like a Saturday night.
Following lunch and as expected, the kids were feeling a little restless, so I switched up the music to mostly current hits, along with many of Ava’s favorite songs and they got right to it… dancing and getting their pictures taken in the photo booth.
Next, the family toasted Ava on her big day and she spoke as well before I invited everyone out to the dance floor for ‘The Hora’ and chair raising.
Guests had a great time dancing to hit songs from Michael Jackson, Bruno Mars, Pharrell Williams and more.
Over the final hour, the kids had a great time doing the limbo and Ava’s request for a hula hoop contest was a big hit. The day ended with a heavy dose of her favorite songs.
Thank you Snap Pixel Pop Photography for sharing photos from this event..
