Horning’s Hideout Hot August Wedding
Amber and Kyle held their wedding and reception at Horning’s Hideout in North Plains, Oregon on Sunday, August 13, 2023, the hottest day of the year at that point with the temperature hovering around 100 degrees.
The tree canopy at this venue kept it much cooler, especially with the small stream running closeby during the ceremony in the Creekside area, where I had setup a second small sound system to provide music and lapel microphone for the officiant.

Following the ceremony, guests walked up the hill to the reception area. Background music during cocktails was a mix of all Country favorites as requested by the bride, while dinner featured a softer variety of selections that included favorites of the couple from The Paper Kites and Van Morrison.

A last minute request for a Dollar Dance preceeded the dance floor opening to all 70 guests in attendance, who were mostly partial to the slower numbers in the first hour. The energy picked up a little later, especially during the bride’s request for “Cupid Shuffle” and other fun group dance songs.

Horning’s Hideout Wedding North Plains Oregon
Haley and Tilon held their Horning’s Hideout wedding in North Plains, Oregon on Friday, August 12, 2022 on a comfortable summer day that topped out at 79 degrees.
The ceremony took place along the creekside where I setup a second small sound system to provide music and microphones for the officiant and the bride and groom’s custom vows.

Following the ceremony, guests walked up the hill to the reception area. Background music was provided by the bride as a Spotify playlist and featured electronic music selections from Odesza, Kaskade, Disclosure and other artists.

- Bouquet Toss: ABBA – Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)
The dance floor filled quickly for the opening slow dance and the newlywed’s requests for “Dancing Queen” and “Love Shack” helped the nearly 100 guests remain a load of energy for the next few hours.
Recent uptempo dance songs from Rihanna and Dua Lipa were well-received and with a full-moon, the bride and groom’s request for “Dancing In The Moonlight” was nice finish for the dance floor at 10pm before the volume had to be reduced (venue rules).

Horning’s Hideout Wedding In North Plains
Emily and Brad held their Horning’s Hideout wedding in North Plains, Oregon on Friday, July 30, 2021. They were actually married in August 2020 at Lost Lake in the Mt Hood National Forest, but this was the first chance to gather with friends and family to celebrate safely.
It was supposed to be a hot one with a 100 degree high forecasted, but the all day cloud cover kept it in the low 90’s. Still a little warm, but a great day to be outside deep in the woods. For background music, the bride requested a mix of what she described as “happy folk/romance rock.” Featured artists included Vance Joy, Caamp, Maggie Rogers, Taylor Swift and more.

Many members of the bride’s family were visiting from Kansas and before the wedding sent me a German polka song “Cafe Polka,” an old recording transferred to digital from a record or cassette. After the cake cutting, I asked guests to bring a partner to the dance floor. Emily’s uncle Roger then led everyone in a German line dance that eventually encircled the newlyweds and led to me introducing their first dance.
With nearly 200 guests in attendance and the good fun of the line dance, the floor filled quickly for the opening song requested by the bride and groom “Celebration,” and remained a load of energy for the next few hours.
As twilight set in, the big hits kept them coming back again and again… ‘Brown Eyed Girl,’ ‘1999,’ ‘Party Rock Anthem,’ ‘Wobble’ and more.
