Cadets Honored, Celebrate At JROTC Banquet

The ballroom at the Monarch Hotel in Clackamas was nearly full as Oregon City High School’s Army JROTC program honored its outstanding cadets Saturday night. This formal event featured dinner, a guest speaker and a skit put on by a few of the cadets. After crowning this year’s G.I. Joe and G.I. Jane, they led the first dance of the night to Uncle Kracker’s ‘Smile’ before others joined in.

While on their best behavior, this group of students was also ready to party on the dance floor and a mix of current hits with a few classics thrown in, kept a lively pace the entire night. It seemed there were beach balls everywhere and two impromptu limbos broke out.

I have to double check, but I believe this event is the longest running on the PRO DJs calendar as we have performed this annually going back to 1998. One constant with these high school kids has been their love for the Hokey Pokey. They request it every year and absolutely love it. Other group dances that went over very well included ‘Cha Cha Slide’, ‘Macarena’, ‘Hoedown Throwdown’ and ‘Cupid Shuffle’.

Everyone seemed to have a great time and we appreciate the opportunity to perform again at this special banquet. Thank you Major Thomas and Cadet Tamara Woodward. -Rich

How To Make Your Prom or School Dance Successful

Selecting a DJ for your prom or school dance is an important decision that can either make your event a success or turn it into a disaster. The sad fact is that there are people who will buy some equipment and claim they are a DJ. This is like someone buying a stethoscope and saying that he is a doctor!

Many people ask “How do I choose a DJ? Aren’t they all the same?” DJs are perceived as a dime-a-dozen commodity by many event planners, and because of this, they try to find the lowest priced service.

Each performer is unique and, like in any other profession, there are DJs who are great, some who are good, some mediocre, and some who should never be allowed to perform!

Here are four simple steps you should take before hiring any DJ:

Step #1: Ask the prospective DJ service if they have the hottest, most up-to-date music selection and demand to see a list of their music. Did you know there are DJs who actually play the same music at school dances they use at weddings? That’s not cool at all. You want a DJ service that has a huge selection of cutting edge music. This means that everyone will be dancing and having a good time, not standing around being bored.

Step #2: Make sure the DJ service can provide you a list of testimonials from past school clients. This is vitally important. You want to see what other people have to say about that company. When you see the great comments about a DJ service from other people, you can feel confident that they will do a great job at your school dance as well. Do not hire a DJ who refuses to give you testimonial proof.

Step #3: Select the DJ service that is right for you, not someone who just has the right price. A big mistake many people make when hiring a DJ is basing their decision totally on price. Of course, price is a factor when hiring an entertainer. However, many event planners place too much emphasis on price and not enough emphasis on the overall impact the DJ will have on their event. Base your decision on the DJ service that will best fulfill your needs and help you to achieve your desired outcomes.

One way you can know whether a DJ service is going to meet your needs is if they ask you what your needs are and what outcomes you want to achieve with your prom or school dance. When you call them, do they just tell you how great they are without finding out what you want and need?

How would you feel if you went to a doctor because you weren’t feeling well and the doctor instantly prescribed some medicine without first finding out what was wrong with you? It’s the same with DJs. They should find out what you want and need first and see if they have a program that can fulfill those needs.

By following these four steps you will select a DJ who is perfect for your school dance.

Union High School Twin Tolo Dance

It was a Twin Tolo theme at Union High School last week. PRO DJs has performed at nearly every dance for the Titans the last few years and as usual, it was a great turnout and the students packed the dance floor for much of the night.

I kept it goin’ with all the hot hits, including ‘We R Who We R’ from Ke$ha, Far East Movement ‘Like A G6’, ‘Dirty Bit’ from the Black Eyed Peas and more. This group also loves the ‘Cha Cha Slide’ and I hadn’t spun ‘Sandstorm’ in awhile, but they went a little crazy for it 🙂

Thanks for a great time Union! -Rich

Lakeridge High School Homecoming Dance

It was a pirate theme for the Lakeridge High School Homecoming Dance on Saturday. A great turnout and the students were at their best, packing the dance floor the entire night. The best part, nobody had to walk the plank 🙂 One student wore a parrot costume and the principal, dressed as Captain Sparrow, gave me fist bump at one point… the night was going well.

Thanks for a great time Lakeridge!
