Michael’s 40th Birthday Party

It was an intimate setting for Michael’s 40th Birthday Party held at Oba Restaurant in the Pearl District Friday night.

About 30 good friends greeted the birthday boy with ‘Surprise!’ as he walked in to a personal favorite song – Ice MC ‘Think About The Way’ from the Trainspotting movie soundtrack. Conversation followed with plenty of drinks and appetizers set to a soundtrack of current alternative hits from Coldplay, U2, Kings of Leon and others, plus a little 80’s New Wave from Depeche Mode, New Order and more.

At one point, Michael let me know he was really enjoying the mix of music as he visited with his friends, but he was also excited to do a little dancing and he gathered everyone on the dance floor with a table full of clear drinks that could have been water, could have been something else in what could be described as a form of Russian Roulette. At his request, I then launched into another of his favorite songs from Trainspotting – ‘Born Slippy’ from Underworld. Most guests were not familiar with this one, but they wanted to celebrate with the guest of honor and we got off to a good start.

Guests danced the night away to a mix of current Top 40, including Usher and the Black Eyed Peas and 80’s and 90’s hits. The night ended with Michael and his wife, Leah dancing to Sting’s ‘Fields of Gold’… the song they chose for the First Dance at their wedding many years ago.
