A Hot One At Fort Vancouver Wedding

It’s officially summer in the great Northwest and the sun was shining bright on Tiffany and Justin’s wedding held Saturday, July 7, 2012 in Vancouver, Washington. The reception took place at the historic Fort Vancouver Artillery Barracks beginning at 12:30pm following their ceremony at a church in Salmon Creek.

For background music, I played a mix of classic rock and Country favorites as requested by the groom, including Fleetwood Mac, Van Morrison and Tim McGraw. As guests arrived, they immediately noticed the photo booth with props (Star Wars, etc.) and lined up to get their picture taken in all kinds of crazy poses.

Wedding Reception Highlights:

  • Grand Entrance: “Serenity” Theme Song
  • Cake Cutting: Elvis Presley – Can’t Help Falling In Love
  • First Dance: Thompson Square – Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not
  • Bride and Father Dance: Heartland – I Loved Her First
  • Groom and Mother Dance: No Limitz – The Man You’ve Become
  • Last Dance Song: Rascal Flatts – Why Wait

It was a hot day and with no air conditioning, I was concerned most guests would want to get outside as soon as the formal events were complete, but many stuck around and we had a good run on the dance floor with classic songs from the Beatles, Bee Gees and more. Country music was also popular… I received requests for Brad Paisley and Zac Brown Band.

Despite the heat, it turned out to be a pleasant afternoon for Tiffany and Justin. Best wishes to you and thank you for choosing PRO DJs. -Rich

Rain Threat Overblown At Mt. Hood Wedding

With rain falling as I neared my arrival to Mt. Hood Bed and Breakfast in Parkdale, Oregon on Saturday, June 30, 2012, I was concerned the beauty of this place would not be experienced by the newlyweds and their guests and the wedding might have to move inside the available barn. Fortunately, the rain stopped as I pulled into the driveway, yet dark clouds covered Mt. Hood and the sound of thunder could be heard in the distance. However, except for a little light rain following the ceremony, that was pretty much it of the wet stuff and it turned out to be a warm, but comfortable evening for Katie and Jim’s celebration.

I normally bring two sound systems to this venue for weddings, with one set-up in the gazebo for the ceremony held in the front yard, that features a stunning view of the mountain, and another set-up in the custom-built dining/dancing area, complete with small stage and dancefloor on the other side of the house. A second sound system means no music downtime and allows for a smooth transition following the ceremony and cocktail hour as guests move to the reception area for dinner and dancing.

Wedding Highlights:

Ceremony

  • Bridal Party Entrance: Nickel Creek – Smoothie Song
  • Bride Entrance: Alan Silvestri – I’m Forrest…Forrest Gump
  • Bride/Groom Exit: Colbie Caillat – Brighter Than the Sun

Reception

  • Grand Entrance: Ryan Bingham – Bread & Water
  • First Dance: Dave Matthews Band – You & Me
  • Bride and Father Dance: John Mayer – Daughters
  • Groom and Mother Dance: Peter Gabriel – Solsbury Hill
  • Last Dance: Semisonic – Closing Time

Following the formal dances, guests didn’t wait long and the dance floor was alive from the opening number. A few retro classics that included Michael Jackson, got everyone out of their seats, but with Katie’s sorority sisters in attendance, the latest hits made them crazy for more. The current summer favorite ‘Call Me Maybe’ brought the house down and the sorority chant that followed couldn’t have been planned any better.

The bride and groom chose to end the night with Semisonic’s ‘Closing Time’ and they exited to a sparkler sendoff. It was a great finish to a perfect day for Katie and Jim. Congratulations!

Portland Wedding DJ Sparks High Energy Reception

The groom couldn’t wait to get the party started. Ondra had planned out every last detail of how he envisioned everything from his proposal to Kathleen, to the ceremony and reception. The itinerary flowed smoothly and with a red-hot dance floor, this celebration met and exceeded expectations.

The bride and groom were married the afternoon of Saturday, June 23, 2012 at The Grotto in Northeast Portland, Oregon. The reception followed that evening at the Crowne Plaza Portland Hotel near the Rose Garden and the ballroom was elegantly decorated with accent lighting and an ice sculpture.

Near the end of dinner and before the toast, a well-produced video was featured that included interviews with Ondra and Kat on how they met and details of the proposal. The guests were highly entertained and it was a great way to learn more about this enjoyable couple.

Wedding Reception Highlights:

  • Grand Entrance: Kirk Whalum – Spend My Life With You
  • Cake Cutting: Gerald Albright – You Are My Love
  • First Dance: James Ingram f/John Tesh – Forever More
  • Bride and Father Dance: Heartland – I Loved Her First

This wedding reception had a classy look and feel, but stuffy was left at the door. The dance floor heated up quickly and stayed packed for most of the evening. Guests were party rockin’ to LMFAO, Maroon 5, and other current songs, along with classic disco hits. The group dances were also very popular… I received many requests for the Cha Cha Slide, Electric Slide, Cupid Shuffle and more. These guests really brought the fun 🙂

Best wishes Kat and Ondra and thank you for choosing PRO DJs. -Rich

Celtic-Themed Wedding At Edgefield

There may have been no more obvious place for Shawnna and Rob to hold their Celtic-themed wedding than McMenamins Edgefield in Troutdale, Oregon. With the sun shining and a few unicorns on the guest list, the surrounding yard of the Administrator’s House was the perfect site for their ceremony and reception on Sunday, June 10, 2012.

Wedding Highlights:

Ceremony

  • Bridal Party Entrance: Enya – The Memory of Trees
  • Bride Entrance: Loreena McKennitt – Prologue
  • Bride/Groom Exit: Black Eyed Peas – I Gotta Feeling

Reception

  • Cake Cutting: James Taylor – How Sweet It Is
  • First Dance: Beyonce – At Last
  • Bouquet Toss: Beyonce – Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)
  • Garter Toss: ZZ Top – Leggs

Shawnna dedicated Maroon 5 ‘Moves Like Jagger’ to her bridesmaids and best girlfriends and we were off to partyville. The unicorns and fairies had an especially good time (see photos).

I played a few oldies, but current music ruled the dancefloor. The bride is a big fan of Rihanna and Kings of Leon. The groom threw in a last second request for Michael Jackson’s ‘Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’ and it was a fun finish to an amazing day.

Best wishes Shawnna and Rob!
