October Wedding McMenamins Kennedy School
Frances and Arthur’s wedding and reception took place at McMenamins’s Kennedy School in Portland, Oregon on Saturday, October 5, 2019.
The first weekend of October brought sunshine for their exchange of vows in the courtyard. Normally I start the ceremony prelude music 30 minutes before the wedding. However, this couple chose to have a full cocktail hour before the wedding and requested all music from “The Postal Service” during this time.
Portland Wedding DJ Ceremony Highlights:
- Wedding Party Entrance: Death Cab for Cutie – I Will Follow You Into The Dark
- Bride Entrance: Bright Eyes – First Day of My Life
- Bride/Groom Exit: Rawnald Gregory Erickson The Second – Strfkr
The reception followed immediately in the Gymnasium. It was a nice evening and a few guests stayed in the courtyard, but most went inside. I had background music playing in both locations until dinner.
Portland Wedding DJ Reception Highlights:
- Grand Entrance: Hall and Oates – You Make My Dreams
- Cake Cutting: Queen – You’re My Best Friend
- First Dance: The Flaming Lips – Do You Realize?
- Bride and Father Dance: Stevie Wonder – You Are the Sunshine of My Life
- Last Dance: K-Ci & JoJo – All My Life
It was a small group, but they filled the dance floor for much of the night. We got off to a great start with “At Last,” “Twist & Shout,” “You Can’t Hurry Love” and the bride and groom’s request for Barry White’s “You’re the First, the Last, My Everything.” Missy Elliot’s “Work It” was also well-received, along with “Pony, “Uptown Funk,”Get Lucky” and more.
Best wishes Frances and Arthur and thank you for choosing PRO DJs.

Inn at Avonlea Sandy Oregon Wedding
Cassidy and James held their Inn at Avonlea Sandy Oregon Wedding on Saturday, September, 28, 2019. It was raining near Mt. Hood so everything was moved inside for the ceremony, originally planned to be outside with the reception after inside the barn.
Of course, the sun came out after the ceremony, but it was a cozy intimate setting to exchange their vows. While I provided microphones and played the prelude, all music was performed by live musicians.
Good thing it was dry as all guests were asked to move outside temporarily while the room was reset for the reception. When everyone returned, I played a mix of popular crooner music from the 40’s and 50’s as requested by the bride. Artists included Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Tony Bennett and more.
Inn at Avonlea Sandy Oregon Wedding Reception Highlights:
- Grand Entrance: Walk The Moon – Shut Up & Dance
- Cake Cutting: Randy Travis – Forever and Ever Amen
- First Dance: Jim Croce – I’ll Have to Say I Love You
- Bride and Father Dance: Third Day – Love Song
- Groom and Mother Dance: Backstreet Boys – The Perfect Fan
- Bouquet Toss: Weather Girls – It’s Raining Men
- Last Dance: Semisonic – Closing Time
Between and the cake cutting and first dance, Cassidy and James played the shoe game. The best responses are to questions where couples disagree or they are not sure how to answer. There was a lot of double shoe raising to questions like “Who has the wackiest family” and “Who made the first move?”
It was still early when the dancing began, so there was some ebb and flow, especially with the dance floor also the main thoroughfare from one end of the barn to the other.
A few songs in though, the dance floor began to define a little more and filled for the fun fast tunes, that included a swing dance.
As the final hour began, the dance floor was packed and guests enjoyed the variety of hits… “Can’t Stop The Feeling,” “Play That Funky Music,” “You Shook Me All Night Long” and more.
Congratulations Cassidy and James! Thank you for choosing PRO DJs.
Wedding at Husum Highlands Bed & Breakfast White Salmon Washington
Raena and Chad’s wedding at Husum Highlands Bed & Breakfast White Salmon, Washington was held on Saturday, September 21, 2019. Amazing views at this venue from the Washington side of Mt. Hood and driving out could also see Mt. Adams up close.
Posting this a day later when it has been raining, the following photos from yesterday feel a little dreamy. It was sunny and warm with a perfect temperature of 73 degrees… it was a magical night to celebrate.
The ceremony took place just below the main house and reception area where I had a separate sound system setup. It was a little breezy when the wedding began around 4:30pm, but the windscreen for the officiant’s lapel microphone did it’s job and the audio sounded just right.
Wedding at Husum Highlands Bed & Breakfast White Salmon Ceremony Highlights:
- Wedding Party Entrance: Righteous Brothers – Unchained Melody
- Bride Entrance: Florence + The Machine – Stand By Me
- Bride/Groom Exit: James Brown – (I Got You) I Feel Good
Background music for cocktails and dinner featured a variety of artists and styles, including The Beatles and Colbie Callait, along with Country favorites from George Strait, Darius Rucker and more.
Wedding at Husum Highlands Bed & Breakfast White Salmon Reception Highlights:
- Grand Entrance: American Authors – Best Day of My Life
- Cake Cutting: James Taylor – How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)
- First Dance: Keith Whitley – When You Say Nothing At All
- Bride and Father Dance: George Straight – Love Without End, Amen
- Groom and Mother Dance: Eric Church – Like Jesus Does
- Bouquet Toss: Beyonce – Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)
- Garter Toss: Marvin Gaye – Let’s Get It On
- Last Dance: Jason Cassidy – Rest of Forever
My mobile phone doesn’t do it justice, but it was a picturesque evening on the dance floor. Guests gathered quickly for the opening slow dance, then had a great time dancing to everything from oldies and the latest hits, such as “Uptown Funk” and “Stayin’ Alive” and Country Classics “Boot Scootin’ Boogie” and “Cotton Eye Joe.”
It was a solid two plus hours of dancing on a gorgeous end of summer night. Congratulations Raena and Chad and thank you for choosing PRO DJs.

Rain Stays Away For Cornelius Oregon Wedding
It has been said that rain on your wedding day brings good luck. It was pouring when I arrived for setup for Megan and Travis’ Cornelius Oregon wedding on Sunday, September 15, 2019. However, a short time later it dried out and stayed that way the rest of the afternoon and evening at Unger Farms store.
Cornelius Oregon Wedding Ceremony Highlights:
- Wedding Party Entrance: Kina Grannis – Can’t Help Falling In Love (Piano Version)
- Bride Entrance: Pachelbel – Canon in D (Best Piano Version)
- Bride/Groom Exit: Florida Georgia Line – Simple
Following the ceremony, guests walked down the grass hill to the store below for drinks and appetizers inside or they could hang out on the deck with view of the water. For this, I setup a separate speaker with background music that included a variety of classic hits and country favorites from artists such as George Strait, Adele, The Beatles and more. I played the same background set from my main system used for the ceremony so music could be heard nearly everywhere on the property.
Cornelius Oregon Wedding Reception Highlights:
- Grand Entrance: Sugarland – Stuck Like Glue
- Cake Cutting: Ben E King – Stand By Me
- First Dance: Brad Paisley – Then
With the rain holding off and a reasonable temperature, it turned out to be a pleasant evening and guests hit the grass dance floor right away and kept going strong for the next two hours. They danced to everything from “Stayin’ Alive” and “Footloose” to “Uptown Funk” and Country hits, “Boot Scootin’ Boogie” and recent smash “Git Up…” plus the only request I received from the bride for Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me).”
Best wishes Megan and Travis and thank you for choosing PRO DJs.

Dassi’s Bat Mitzvah Party At Treasury Ballroom
Dassi’s memorable Bat Mitzvah party took place at the Historic Treasury Ballroom in Portland, Oregon on Saturday, September 14, 2019. I was also the DJ for her sister, Taliana’s Bat Mitzvah in October, 2013.
Just like six years before, there was a lot on the itinerary for this event, including games, Havdalah, the chair raising dance to “Hava Nagilah,” Candle Lighting ceremony and Flash Mob dance.
Guests began arriving around 7pm and about 20 minutes later, the kids had a great time playing games, including “Would You Rather?” where beforehand I had Dassi answer some questions… the same questions I asked her sister in 2013, such as “Would you rather live without music or live without the Internet?” or “would you rather always have to say everything on your mind or never speak again?” Her friends on the dance floor had to pick a side of the floor for which answer they thought she chose and we did this until there was one friend left who knew her best 🙂
Following the Candle Lighting ceremony, cake cutting and video presentation, Dassi and some of her friends surprised the guests with a Flash Mob dance to “The Greatest Show” from the musical “The Greatest Showman.”
Not surprisingly, there was a lot of energy in the room following the flash mob and the dance floor was hoppin’ all evening to hot hits “Cupid Shuffle” and “Uptown Funk,” plus favorites of the Bat Mitzvah girl, Jonas Brothers, Katy Perry and YouTube tween sensation, JoJo Siwa.
Mazel Tov Dassi and thank you mom Soshana for again choosing PRO DJs.
