Maui Commitment Ceremony Portland Reception
Hawaiian flowers and decorations dressed up the Laurelhurst Club in Northeast Portland on Saturday, September 29, 2012 for a casual reception to celebrate Kyle and Ethan’s Commitment Ceremony held a few weeks earlier on Maui.
Background music was a mix of classic hits and some current favorites… festive tunes from Al Green, Coldplay and others, along with some Motown and Reggae.
After Kyle and Ethan shared a special dance with their mothers, I opened the dance floor to everyone. Just shy of 150 guests packed the club and they were not shy about participating.
Kyle had noted his dad was a ‘YMCA’ freak and he meant that literally. When I played the Village People, he danced everywhere and let out an occasional scream of delight that shook the neighborhood 🙂
Old disco songs were well received by all, as well as some of today’s hot hits.

High Energy Guests Crank Up The Fun At Bridgeport Brewpub Wedding Reception
The first day of Fall offered the perfect summer weather for Jessi and Dan’s wedding held in the Shakespeare Garden at Washington Park in Portland, Oregon on Saturday, September 22, 2012.
The reception followed at Bridgeport Brewpub in the Pearl District in Northwest Portland, where I had my sound system set-up and playing a variety of popular background music as guests arrived, including a few Country selections requested by the bride.

I have witnessed many energetic starts to the dance floor at past events, but this one took the cake. It seemed like everyone just exploded out of their seats for that first uptempo song and they never let up. The fun and excitement increased with every cut… hot tracks like ‘Moves Like Jagger’, ‘Party Rock Anthem’, ‘Stayin’ Alive’ and a last minute request from Jessi for the new smash hit ‘Gangnam Style’ were well received.
No more than 75 guests were in attendance, but they really rocked it and made a great party for Jessi and Dan. Congratulations!

World War II Veterans Reunite In Portland
The only marine division never to serve on U.S. soil gathered for a reunion on Friday, September 21, 2012 in the Grand Ballroom II at the Hilton Hotel located in downtown Portland, Oregon.
The Sixth Marine Division was formed during World War II in the South Pacific and also disbanded there after taking Okinawa, Japan.
The majority of veterans and their spouses are 92 years young, so I played an appropriate mix of music from the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s during cocktails and dinner, including selections from the Andrews Sisters, Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller.
After dinner, several guest speakers and a group photo, I opened the dance floor with Glenn Miller’s ‘Moonlight Serenade’. Other popular songs during the war followed and many couples danced and enjoyed the memorable music.

Sole Support For Parkinson’s Walk Comes To Vancouver USA
2012 marks 6 years that PRO DJs has provided sound and music for the ‘Sole Support for Parkinson’s Walk’ held at Willamette Park in Southwest Portland every September. This event also takes place in Eugene and Medford, Oregon and for the first time this year, in Vancouver, Washington
The walk is an effort to raise awareness and funds for Parkinson’s Resources of Oregon, a non-profit geared towards helping people with the disease.
With 350 walkers attending, I had the opportunity to emcee and play music at this important event at on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Esther Short Park in downtown Vancouver. The weather was perfect and everyone appeared to enjoy the music and activities. I look forward to the Portland Sole Support Walk scheduled for Sunday, September 23, 2012.

Hot Fun In The Annual Oktoberfest Sun
One of the longest running customer appreciation days happens in North Vancouver, Washington every September. Vancouver Oil has treated their clients to an Oktoberfest Celebration that includes plenty of bratwurst and beer, right in their company parking lot… a perfect location near the I-5 Freeway that provides plenty of parking and allows the music to be turned up a little.
This event has been running 15 years now and PRO DJs has had the opportunity to be a part of it for the last four years. We replaced an Oom-pah band in 2009 and while I still spin an Oktoberfest song or two, attendees love the variety of music that includes classic Rock and Country favorites.
Previous events have included lots of prizes and a frozen t-shirt contest where (mostly men) race to break up a block of ice with a t-shirt inside, then after retrieving it, put the shirt on 🙂 Yes, that’s cold! That event will return in the future, but this year, they opted for a Classic Car Display with the winner taking home $500 in fuel.
It was a hot one with the temperature at 90 plus degrees, but everyone enjoyed the company and good fun. Thanks again for choosing PRO DJs. We look forward to next year.
